A visit to Washington, DC, after President-elect Donald Trump is sworn in, is an opportunity to explore a state capital with a history in the making.
In 2023, the city welcomed nearly 26 million visitors, setting a new record, according to Destination DC.

“Obviously you’ll want to visit the Smithsonian’s along the Mall while you’re in town and the National Museum of American History, where you can see the Star Spangled Banner and the First Lady’s gowns,” Petersen said.

Visitors, with free entry and a ticket, can look at the cream from the shoulder designed dress by Hervé Pierre.
For history buffs, travelers can see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights at the National Archives Museum.

It is the 20th amendment to of the Constitution which states that the term of office of each elected US president begins at noon on January 20 after the presidential election.
“[Visitors] you absolutely need to make reservations for National Archives”, advises Petersen.
For family affairs, the International Spy Museum welcomes all ages.
Petersen said it’s a fun museum.

If passengers want to go outside, Petersen suggests National Botanical gardens.
“Another place we enjoy visiting, for a bit of warmth and beauty… It’s the perfect destination in the winter when everything is bright outside,” she said.
The National Mall has the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Washington Monument, and world war Monument.

“Remember, all the monuments are out there, but if you’re dressed appropriately, they’re absolutely worth a visit,” Petersen said.
Petersen added that Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia is “required”.
On Sunday, President-elect Trump will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, FOX 56 reported.
