Sources of tension: Drama on the first day
The seeds of this rivalry were sown on the first day when Konstas got into a heated argument between Bumrah and Usman Khawaja. The exchange, which escalated to the point of requiring the umpire’s intervention, ended with Bumrah dismissing Khawaja on the last ball of the day. However, the young Aussie seemed unfazed and carried his defiant attitude into Day 2, determined to challenge Bumrah at every opportunity.
Despite his audacious shot from the ramp, Konstas’ resistance was short-lived. Mohammed Siraj struck a vital blow in the 12th over, producing a beautiful angled shot that took the edge off Konstas’ bat. KL Rahul made no mistake at second slip, completing a sharp catch. Siraj celebrated vivaciously, his aggressive punches reflecting the energy of the Indian team, fired up by the dismissal. Siraj’s breakthrough not only removed the young opener but also seemed to avenge an earlier clash involving Bumrah, reasserting India’s control over the game.
