The Women’s Ashes 2025 has entered another exciting chapter in white-ball cricket with the start of the first T20I in between Australia and England women. The Australian women’s team remained unbeaten during the 3-match ODI series between the two nations and they focused on winning the first 1st T20I to eventually win another Women’s Ashes.
A good look at the batting exhibition that cements their quest to claim the Ashes came at the hands of Australia’s top batsman Phoebe Litchfield as she hit a rather unconventional six to add to an already exciting display of Australian batting.
Phoebe Litchfield nails a huge six
Litchfield reached the crease during the 4th over of the match when he made his debut Georgia Voll was sent back to the pavilion after a valiant display of 21 runs off 11 balls. The top batsman, after spending some time on the field, took the offensive matters into her own hands and started wreaking havoc on England’s bowlers.
The highlight of her short-lived but crucial innings came when, during the 8th over of the innings, she took a full-length from Sarah Glenn on the bat instantly switching sides anticipating the height of the ball. The otherwise left-handed batsman turned to her right and hit a six outside off for a scintillating six, stunning the English players and the crowd at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Her unconventional six was the only maximum in her 25 innings from 20 balls before she was unfortunately dismissed Heather Knight in an outstanding display of fielding. Litchfield was instrumental in providing a solid base to support the opening keeper Beth Mooney who played a remarkable innings of 75 runs off 51 balls.

Australia collects a huge total
In a remarkable display of their batting prowess, Australia made a respectable total of 198 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Mooney’s steady and skilful innings was the highlight of Australia’s innings. Additionally, she was well supported by Voll, Litchfield and the skipper Tahila McGrath who scored 21, 25 and 26 runs.
England bowling had a night to forget at the SCG. Lauren Bell and Sophie Ecclestone they were the only bowlers who had any impact on the Australian batsmen. Both England bowlers took 2 Australian wickets each. Glenn had a rough game with the ball as she gave away 40 runs in just 3 overs which she bowled without taking a wicket.
