The most tense moments whenever Sachin was on the field occurred when the crowd suddenly chanted his name, supporting him wholeheartedly.
Something similar happened almost 13 years after his retirement from all forms of cricket. During the Golden Jubilee celebrations at the Wankhede Stadium, the crowd started chanting “Sachin.. Sachin” in familiar fashion as soon as the legendary cricketer took to the stage.
Sachin arrived at the Golden Jubilee celebrations at the Wankhede Stadium, which apart from witnessing a number of historic moments in Indian cricket, is also home to Mumbai Indians– the former IPL franchise that Sachin played for from 2008 to 2013.
Sachin was joined by players like the former Indian player Ravi Shastrilegendary batsman Sunil GavaskarIndian skipper Rohit Sharma and many other local players.

Wankhede Stadium celebrates 50 years: a look back at the legendary ground’s roots
The Wankhede Stadium, located in Mumbai, is one of the most famous venues in Indian cricket. Its history dates back to the 1970s, stemming from a dispute between Cricket Club of India (CCI) and Bombay Cricket Association (BCA). BCA built a 45,000 capacity stadium, located just a mile from CCI’s Brabourne Stadium, which had hosted 17 Test matches until then. Wankhede’s inaugural Test in the 1974-75 season saw West Indies dominate India.
India’s first taste of victory at the stadium came in 1976, vs New Zealandand over the years it has become a place for many unforgettable changes and historical moments. The Wankhede’s seaside location gave swing bowlers an early advantage, particularly in the morning and closing sessions when there was a sea breeze, although this influence was reduced after the stands were renovated ahead of the 2011 World Cup. Traditionally, the pitch at Wankhede has been conducive to scoring, but the red ground offers help to players during the later stages of a Test match.
With stands named after cricketing legends such as Vijay MerchantGavaskar and Sachin, the Wankhede Stadium remains central to Mumbai’s cricketing identity and the venue for some of the sport’s greatest performances.
