Iyer came in at number 6 in year 6 over his team struggled at 49/4 against Kerala. However, he faced just three deliveries before leaving the field due to discomfort from a sprained ankle. Iyer was assisted on the field by a physiotherapist and reserve players, which caused concern among fans.

The report states that Venkatesh Iyer’s ankle injury is not serious and he is recovering well. The 30-year-old did not take the field on Friday, January 24, as a precaution, but has no major injury problems.
Madhya Pradesh were struggling at 50 for 4, with their key middle-order batter injured, and their situation deteriorated to 95 for 7. However, Venkatesh Iyer bravely returned to bat despite an injured ankle.
He accepted the challenge and managed to hit sixes and fours off spinner Aditya Sarvata. Iyer shared a 43-run ninth-wicket partnership with Pacer Avesh Khanhelping MP to a competitive total of 160. He was dismissed from NP Basil for 42 runs off 80 balls, including two fours and one six.
KKR optimistic that Venkatesh Iyer’s injury is not serious
With less than two months to go until the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are optimistic that the injury is not serious. Iyer was acquired for 23.75 crores during the IPL 2025 mega auction and was the third highest priced player. He played a key role in KKR’s victory in 2024.
The 30-year-old has been a key player for the Knight Riders since joining the team in 2021. He scored 370 runs in his debut season. In 2024, Iyer scored 370 runs in 13 overs at a remarkable strike rate of 158.79. Overall, he amassed 1,326 runs at a strike rate of 137.12, with one century and 11 fifties.
Venkatesh Iyer and MP’s Performance in Ranji Trophy 2024-25
Madhya Pradesh faced a tough start in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, sitting sixth in their group with just 10 points from five matches. They failed to secure first roles in three consecutive draws. The MP bounced the thrashing of Bihar from an innings and 108 runs.
Venkatesh played a key role in that victory, scoring 174 runs off 176 balls. MP came close to chasing 338 against Bengal but got through by just 12 runs. Iyer scored 53 runs off 95 balls in that fourth innings. In all, he scored 330 runs in seven matches, at an impressive average of 47.14.
