TSA unveils top unusual discoveries at airport security checkpoints in 2024
Many Americans flew across the US in 2024.
While travelers typically take TSA restrictions into account when packing their bags, some may forget or even try to sneak items through the airport screening process.
The TSA shared a video and press release showing some of the “best catches” seized over the past year.

AND TSA spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the content was “an excellent illustration of the types of prohibited items.”
“They also represent the types of items that cause delays at checkpoints,” the spokesman said.
A Mississippi man was arrested at Newark International Airport by the police after he tried to fly with a disassembled 9mm firearm hidden in a Lego box, according to TSA officials.
The frame of the gun was found in the bottom of the boot under a stuffed sock in an attempt to hide it.
“Gun slide, spring and magazine loaded 12 bullets were discovered mixed in among the plastic parts of the Black Panther LEGO set,” the statement said.

In North Carolina, agents at the Asheville Regional Airport discovered marijuana hidden in peanut butter container, TSA announced on Instagram on March 1.
And in February, in Chicago Midway International airport, a passenger tried to hide a vape pen inside a tube of toothpaste.
The TSA shared the discovery on its Instagram page, captioning the post “9 of 10 dentists I don’t recommend it.”
“Seems like they wanted to add a touch of minty-cool to their travel experience. What do we think? Trying to hide items is a surefire way to get yourself stuck,” the post read.

In November, a passenger flying from William B. Hobby International Airport to Houston had a gun hidden in the back pocket of a baby carriage.
“Houston Airport, we definitely have a problem…” TSA wrote on Instagram.
The TSA at Miami International Airport witnessed a bizarre incident at the end of April when a man tried to sneak out live snakes through security by hiding them in his pants.
“Traffic security officers at airport checkpoints are really good at stopping [prohibited items] from entering the secure side of airports and into passenger cabins of commercial aircraft,” said a TSA spokesperson.

No firearms in hand luggage
Firearms must be in checked baggage and “properly packed and declared airline company at check-in, which means unloaded and in a locked crate with hard pages.”
Leave all prohibited items at home
Passengers can check “What can I take?” link on the TSA website if they are unsure.
Prepare for the security checkpoint
Flyers should have a valid identity card at hand with electronics such as phone out of pockets and placed in bins.
Passengers should follow the “3-1-1 rule of 3.4 ounces or less for each item, and items should be placed in a one-liter bag, one bag per passenger.”
Travelers can also enroll in “TSA PreCheck,” which expedites screening of eligible flyers at participating airports.
