Washington (Reuters) – The command of US President Donald Trump stopped by the initiatives for diversity, equality and inclusion cited the air force to suspend a documentary on the first black aircraft in the US military, known as Tuskegee Airmen, said the US official of Saturday.
Famous black aviators involved 450 pilots who fought abroad in separate units during World War II. Their success in the fight helped the way to the decision of President Harry Truman on the decisions of the armed forces in 1948.
Another video of civilian pilots trained by the US army during World War II, known as “Pilot Pilots of Air Force” or WASP, was also withdrawn, the official said.
The air forces did not directly comment on the decision, which was confirmed by the official who spoke with Reuters provided he remained anonymous.
US President Donald Trump has issued a number of executive commands that he has been trying to abolish Dei programs since he took his post on Monday.
Dei programs seek to promote the possibilities for women, ethnic minorities and other traditionally subsequent groups. Proponents of civil rights claim that such programs, which are mostly supported by Democrats, are needed to resolve long -term inequality and structural racism.
But they became a call of conservatives who claim that initiatives aimed at race and gender in themselves are discriminatory and that they do not give an advantage of merit.
On Friday, Reuters reported that the new Minister of Defense of Peta Hegsetth told MPs that he opposed the use of race as a factor to evaluate candidates for the elite American military academy.
Trump’s administration and its supporters in Congress claim that the US army should also be cleaned by generals supporting Dei initiatives, which they say they distract from war fights.
The US official said that video of Tuskegee aircraft and other historical materials were withdrawn while the air forces are conducting an overview of the San Antonio-Lelcland Curriculum and Programs, where new recruits receive basic training.
The official emphasized that the videos were not particularly targeted, but are part of the curriculum and the program that was suspended by waiting for audit.
For their part, the air forces said in a statement that they were handed over to the execution of Trump’s commands.
“The Ministry of Air Force will fully execute and implement all the directives listed in the executive orders issued by the President, ensuring that they are implemented with the highest professionalism, efficiency and in accordance with national security goals,” said the air force spokesman.
