(Reuters) – US prosecutors on Friday rejected charges against Texas doctor and self -proclaimed whistleblower about the care for a transgender minor, who has been accused of illegally gaining access to patients who are not under his care at the Texas Child Hospital.

Just a few days after Republican President Donald Trump returned to his duty on Monday, the Federal Prosecutors in Houston decided to dismiss the case launched in June against Dr. Eithan Haima, whose criminal pursuit was sharply criticized by conservatives.

Haim, who appeared several times at Fox News after the indictment was filed, was to face trial on February 10 on the charges that he had violated the Law on Transfer and Liability of Health Insurance, the Federal Patients’ Privacy Act.

Ryan Patrick, Haim’s lawyer, called the legal theory of the Prosecutor’s Office “Roman.” He said the prosecutors agreed to dismiss the case after Sunday’s resignation of US Attorney General Alamdar Hamdani, appointed Democratic former President Joe Biden.

“They have made what we believe is the right decision,” Patrick said.

The spokesman for the US State Attorney’s Office did not respond to the comment request.

Ever since she took over her duty, Trump’s administration has quickly canceled the policy established by the Biden administration, which defended LGBTQ rights and opposed the Republican state limitations related to medical care for transgender minor.

Trump on Monday signed an executive regulation declaring that the Government would admit only two sexes, male and female, which are invariable.

Haim, a Dallas surgeon, occasionally worked at the Texas Children’s Hospital, one of the largest children’s hospitals in the country as part of his internship.

Prosecutors said that in 2023 he demanded that he reactivate his credentials for the application to approach the medical files of children who are not under his care. After receiving access, he gave the media private medical data, the prosecutors said.

Haim described himself as a whistleblower who wanted to unravel the hospital program of care for a transgender person.

After Trump assumed his duty, Haim stated in the Social Network on the Social Network of X on Wednesday that he should be rejected with Biden’s departure against him, calling it “weapons from a textbook against the political enemies of Biden’s regime.”
