Trump will be inaugurated indoors: The last ceremony held indoors was Reagan’s in 1985.
President Donald Trump The inauguration will now take place inside the US Capitol due to cold weather forecast for Monday, the first indoor inauguration since Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration in January 1985.
On that cold January 20, 40 years ago, the air temperature was 7 degrees and the wind was -40.
Monday’s forecast is for a high of 23 degrees and a low of 10, but brutal winds are expected to whip through the city, making the temperature seem more like single digits.
President Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated inside the Capitol in 1801, as was the custom in the nation’s early history. The organizers moved the president Inauguration of James Monroe outside, because the Capitol was badly damaged after the War of 1812 when the British burned it, which began the custom of taking the president’s oath of office outside in front of the National Mall.
TRUMP SWORN TO MOVE INTO A HOUSE BECAUSE OF THE COLD WEATHER
President John F. Kennedy the 1961 inauguration had similar temperatures – a high of 26 and a low of 19. It was held outside, even after a storm dumped eight inches of snow the day before.
“Weather forecast for Washington, DC, with a wind chill factor, could push temperatures to record lows,” Trump posted on Truth Social, referring to the expected chill.
“The arctic blast is sweeping the country. I don’t want to see people hurt or hurt in any way. Conditions are dangerous for the tens of thousands of police officers, emergency responders, police K9s and even horses, and the hundreds of thousands of fans who will be out there for many hours on the 20th. ( In any case, if you decide to come, dress warmly!).”
