Trump candidate says electric vehicles should pay to use roads Reuters
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to head the U.S. Department of Transportation said on Wednesday that electric vehicles should pay to use the roads.
Most of the revenue for federally funded road repairs is collected through diesel and gasoline taxes, which electric vehicles do not pay. “They should be paying to use our roads. How to do that, I think is a little bit more of a challenge,” Sean Duffy, a former Republican lawmaker, said at a hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee.
