Triple H is “creatively bankrupt” and should consider retiring, says WWE veteran

Triple H has overseen the creative direction of WWE since replacing his father-in-law Vince McMahon in July 2022. Vince Russo, WWE’s head writer in the late 1990s, thinks The Game should consider retiring.

Russo wrote storylines for WWE when RAW regularly drew the highest ratings in the show’s history. In 1999, he left the company to join WCW after being told by McMahon that he should hire a babysitter to look after his children.

In an interview on Hannibal TVRusso said that Triple H is a “great wrestler” but doubted his abilities as a writer. He also expressed concern about RAW and SmackDown becoming three-hour weekly shows:

“I watch those shows and all I see are the same angles repeated over and over and over and over ad nauseam,” Russo said. “That tells me that Triple H is creatively bankrupt, so he’s either got to retire and bring in some people who understand writing and know how to write a television show and understand wrestling, or like I said, bro, six hours of WWE, weekly, you know how old and boring is that going to get?” [35:07 – 35:49]

In the same interview Russo he addressed Stephanie McMahon and Triple Ha’s current relationship with Vince McMahon.

Vince Russo on Triple Ha’s Plan for Early 2025

WrestleMania 41 will take place April 19-20 in Las Vegas. Several big names are expected to return before then, including John Cena, Logan Paul and The Rock. RAW is also set to debut on Netflix on January 6th.

With so much hype surrounding WWE right now, Vince Russo expects Triple H to have plenty of creative options ahead of WrestleMania. However, after The Show of Shows, he thinks the story problems will resurface:

“Yeah bro, he’ll probably be able to ride the wave from now until WrestleMania,” Russo continued. “They’ve got Cena in their pocket, they’re probably going to bring The Rock back, Logan Paul is coming back. They’re going to pull every rabbit out of that hat. As soon as WrestleMania is over, bro, and that tank is empty, good luck with six hours of TV every week.” [35:49 – 36:16]

Russo too explained why he thinks the Roman Reigns Bloodline storyline is “boring” and not as exciting as many fans think.
