The targets of Man Utd, Barcelona and Real Madrid gave the decision on the January transfer
Benfica left-back Alvaro Carreras has insisted he is happy with the Portuguese side amid interest from Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid in his services.
Carreras, 21, joined Benfica this summer when his £5m loan from United, where he was better known as Alvaro Fernandez, became permanent, and his impressive performances have contributed to his transfer the value has been increasing rapidly in the last six months.
Both Barcelona and Madrid have been warned they will need more than £40m to sign Carreras, but United they are believed to have a buyout clause of just £17m which former manager Erik ten Hag hinted at using it before he was relieved of his duties.
Ruben Amorim’s iteration of United is also poaching at left-back, with Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu is currently the main targetbut the Red Devils could consider re-signing Carreras.
However, after grabbing an assist Benfica’s heavy 5-4 loss to Barcelona in midweek, Carreras suggested he was in no rush to leave his current side.
“You never know, but I have a long-term contract here at Benfica, I’m happy,” he emphasized. – They gave me the opportunity to grow and I owe them everything.
The two Spanish giants are expected to delay their search for a new left-back until the summer transfer window. Madrid was chasing Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich, but a Canadian national team player seems close to signing a new contract.
Barcelona have also been linked with Davies, with a number of other high-profile players linked with a move to Catalunya despite the club’s ongoing financial problems. Marcus Rashford from Manchester United is one such target, while Juventus striker Dušan Vlahović is praised as a potential target if the club needs to replace goal-scoring veteran Robert Lewandowski.
