The Palisades house was saved from a wildfire thanks in part to the pool pump system
A Los Angeles family in Palisades Highlands shared this week how they used their pool, generator, sprinkler, pump and fire hose to save their house from forest fires, which destroyed thousands of homes.
The system is “very economical and easy to operate,” Instagram user Cali_._love wrote alongside a video showing them pumping water from their pool and spraying it on the vegetation around their hillside home.
“There is no doubt that this generator, pump, pool, sprinkler and fire hose helped save our family home,” Cali_._love wrote. “My dad was so adamant that all the neighbors had one. He was right as he had been so many times in his career.”
They said they drained two pools — theirs and a neighbor’s — working with equipment for 10 hours over two days, soaking the plants and the roof “only to come back the next day to find the bottom half of the palm tree burned along with the whole hill.

“Without this it would be there is no more house and it is possible that there are no more neighbors. Were we lucky? Extremely. Were we ready? That. Were there things we would have done differently? Absolutely,” they wrote.
Seeing as their house didn’t burn down, they said they were “adamant” that everyone with a pool should use their system.
They said that even without a pool, there are other solutions for storing water.

“Since we were in the area, we did our part burst into neighbors’ houses and our dear family friends,” they added. “We encountered a lot of threatening embers and live fire. It was a challenge to put them all out, but we did our best with the buckets and their pools. If they had this, we’d be 100 times more efficient.”
