The mayor of a big blue city remains silent after an illegal immigrant uses the shelter for criminal activity
Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu is silent after the illegal immigrant was caught using a taxpayer-funded migrant shelter in suburban Boston for criminal activityincluding stockpiling weapons and drugs worth nearly a million dollars.
Wu did not respond to Fox News Digital’s repeated requests for comment, despite the migrant shelter being located just a few minutes’ drive from downtown Boston.
Leonardo Andujar Sanchez, a 28-year-old illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic, faces criminal charges in federal court for illegal possession of an AR-15 and ammunition and more than 400 grams of fentanyl with intent to distribute, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District Massachusetts.
Boston 25 News also reported that Sanchez was also caught in possession of cocaine with an “estimated street value of at least $750,000.” He is currently in the custody of state authorities.
Sanchez kept his guns and drugs in his room at the Quality Inn in Revere, Massachusetts, which is a government-funded migrant shelter.
Boston and Massachusetts both have sanctuary policies, and Wu and Gov. Maura Healey have vowed to resist President-elect Donald Trump’s plans to crack down on illegal immigration.
Despite this, Healey expressed anger at the incident, saying: “It is outrageous that this individual used our shelter system to engage in criminal activity.”
Healey ordered an inspection of all shelters, starting with the Quality Inn in Revere, as well as a “complete audit” of the state’s shelter intake process.

“This further underscores our broken federal immigration system and the urgent need for Congress and the White House to take action on the border security bill to prevent criminals from entering our communities,” Healey said. “The people of Massachusetts should not continue to face the effects of federal inaction.”
However, Wu, who said Boston is a haven for politics “make everything safer,” remained silent. Although Fox News Digital spoke with Wu’s office, neither she nor her office released any response to Sanchez’s arrest.
Since Trump’s 2024 election victory, Wu has doubled down on Boston’s status as a sanctuary city, saying police and city officials will not assist federal authorities in deportations.

Trump’s incoming border czar Tom Homan called out Wu for vowing to resist the administration’s immigration plan, saying Newsmax in November that she is “not very smart”.
“President Trump will prioritize threats to public safety,” Homan said. “What mayor or governor doesn’t want threats to public safety outside of their communities? I think your number one responsibility is to protect your communities and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
