The Deputy Prime Minister of the Croatian Government has resigned because of a video of him shooting from a car

The vice president of the Croatian government resigned after a video surfaced of him shooting randomly from a moving car.

In the video, Josip Dabro can be seen in the passenger seat, chatting, laughing and singing along to loud music, before taking a gun and shooting through the open window into the darkness.

Dabro, who represents the far-right nationalist Domovinski pokret party, said the video was several years old and that he had fired training bullets.

It is the most recent incident that upset the Croatian coalition – formed in May 2024 – and the Government called Dabra’s behavior “inappropriate and irresponsible”.

Dabro, who was also the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said in a statement about his resignation published on Facebook that he did not want to be a hindrance to the Government.

He said he had been subjected to “significant pressure and threats” over plans to reform the department.

The video was released at the beginning of the week.

Dabr’s party is in a coalition government with the centre-right party, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.

Last November, Minister of Health Vili Bros was dismissed ahead of the corruption investigation.

Zoran Milanović was on Monday re-elected as president for a second termwinning almost three quarters of the votes ahead of the opponent Dragan Primorc, who was supported by the HDZ.

Plenković said after the results that “Milanović offers nothing” and refused to congratulate him. Presidents in Croatia have a mostly ceremonial role.
