Syrian Ahmed al-Sharaa was appointed President for the transition period | Syrian war news
Al-Sharaa is also authorized to form a temporary legislative Council for the transitional phase, the state media reports.
The de facto leader of Syria Ahmed al-Sharaa was appointed president to the transitional phase, and the country’s constitution was suspended, the Syrian state news agency (Sana) reported.
Al-Sharaa is also authorized to form a temporary legislative Council for the transitional phase that will perform its task until the new constitution is adopted, Sana reported on Wednesday.
The announcement was published by a spokesman for the new Syrian sector of military operations in Syria, Hassan Abdel Ghani, said Sana State News Agency.
Abdel Ghani also announced the dissolution of armed fractions in the country, which he said would be absorbed into state institutions.
“All military fractions are dissolved … and integrated into state institutions,” the state news agency Abdel Ghani quoted. He also announced the “dissolution of the army of lowered regime” and security agencies, as well as the Baath party, which ruled Syria for decades.
The announcements appeared during a meeting of armed fractures in Damascus who joined the lightnings that were Break President Bashar al-Assad Last month. Al-Sharaa has been a de facto ruler of Syria since he led the offensive.
After removing Al-Assad, the Al-Sharaa Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) group became a de facto ruling party and founded a temporary government that was largely made up of local government officials he had previously led in the Idlib rebel province.
Al-Sharaa has committed to start a political transition, including a national conference, including the Government and the possible elections, which he said could take up to four years.
He also called for the creation of a new coupled national army and security forces, but it is questioned that the temporary administration can gather patchwork of former opposition rebel groups, each with its leaders and ideology.
The transition begins
Osama Bin Javaid of Al Jazeere, who reports from Damascus, said the announcements on Wednesday provided “greater clarity on the way forward” for Syria.
“This Presidency will be for the transitional period, but we do not know how long it will take. It will also take the path to the international community to abolish sanctions,” he said.
“In the last 48 hours we have heard of the EU [European Union] Map of the path to complete the lifting of sanctions. It will be crucial because it affects everything in Syria, in all aspects of society and people. This will do or break how the economy works and how Syria will move forward, “he added.
Radwan Ziadeh, a senior analyst at the Washington DC Arab Center, a research organization, said the announcements marked the “transition of power into civilian hands”.
“Al-Sharaa will appoint members of the legislative body, which will give institutional declarations in the next few days,” he said.
“We saw [similar political transitions] In Africa and Latin America. What is important today is that the political process has started. We conveyed strength from military groups into a political process. “
