Sydney Sixers cricketer Steve Smith continued his impressive streak of defending boundaries with a stunning effort during the 2024-25 BBL match against Sydney Thunder. Steve Smith pulled off an acrobatic save near the boundary line at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on Friday 17 January.
Steve Smith leads the Sydney Sixers in a crucial Sydney Smash clash against Sydney Thunder, led by veteran David Warner. This match could shake up the top three standings in the 2024-25 BBL. However, the match was postponed due to heavy rain after just five overs at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Sydney Sixers win the bat flip and decide to play
The Sydney Sixers won the bat flip and chose to field, with Warner and new Australian Test star Sam Konstas opening the Thunder. Jack Edwards opened with the first over but Warner hit a quick boundary before rain interrupted play after 1.4 overs.
The match continued under modified conditions, with 19 overs per side. Konstas managed 9 off 14 balls, including two fours, before being dismissed by Edwards.

The incident happened on the first ball of the 5th over when David Warner tried to trouble the bowler Todd Murphy. Warner stepped forward and sent the ball towards the long off. Steve Smith made an incredible effort to save the six.
Smith threw the ball back downfield before exiting and returning to complete the catch. With no one around to help, the former Australian captain saved four runs for his team with his incredible fielding effort.

Steve Smith has been a standout Test star in Australia’s T20 competition this season. He started strongly with a remarkable century against the Scorchers in his first match, followed by a 50 in his second appearance, leading to a win over the Strikers.
