Indian women’s national cricket team batsman Smriti Mandhana has achieved a huge feat in ODI history for the national team. The opening batsman became only the second player from the Indian team to cross more than 4000 runs in the history of 50-over cricket.
Mandhana achieved the feat during the first match of the ODI series against the Irish women’s cricket team. The opening match of the three-match series between the teams is being played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.

Chasing 239 runs, Mandhana went all out and ensured that she gave her team a vital start. The opening batsman looked great in touch and made sure she led from the front and put the opposition under pressure right from the start.
Mandhana crossed the 4000-run mark during her innings and became only the second Indian cricketer after Mithali Raj to achieve the remarkable milestone. Overall, she became the 15th player in the history of women’s cricket to pass the landmark.

Mandhana, who was going through a purple patch in ODIs, played an innings of 41 runs off 29 balls. The opening batsman batted at a strike rate of over 141 and also hit 6 fours and 1 six in her innings, leading her team to a comeback.
Mandhana has been named the captain of the team in the ongoing series against the Irish women’s cricket team. This is because the regular captain Harmanpeeet Kaur quit the series and Smriti, who was the vice-captain, was given the role.
Mandhana played a key role for her team and would like to maintain her confidence in the next two games. Along the way, India’s women’s national cricket team gave chase; they seemed poised to win and take a 1-0 lead.
The Indian women’s cricket team has had a decent attack with the ball in the ongoing match. They restricted the opposition to just 238 runs. In the chase, apart from Smriti Mandhan, Pratika Rawal hit a vital half-century and looks strong to take her team home.
