Rumors of a potential engagement between young Indian cricketer Rinku Singh and Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj started doing the rounds on social media. However, Priya’s father, Tufani Saroj, publicly denied the claims, dismissing them as untrue and adding a new twist to the speculations.
Rinku Singh quickly made a name for himself in Indian cricket. He has scored 562 runs across formats since his debut in August 2023. He played a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ title campaign. He was also among the reserve players of the team that won the World Cup under Rohit Sharma.

Tufani Saroj, a three-time Member of Parliament (MP) and current Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kerakat, Jaunpur, clarified that the engagement did not take place. Tufani also stated that Priya is currently in Thiruvananthapuram for work and the engagement reports were false.
“Priya is currently in Thiruvananthapuram for some work and no, her engagement with Rinku Singh has not happened. Yes, the talks between the families are on but the engagement news is completely wrong,” Tufani told India TV Digital.

This revelation comes amid reports of Rinku and Priya’s engagement. Reports suggested that Rinku’s family had contacted Priya’s brother-in-law regarding the marriage proposal. However, neither Rinku nor Priya have made any public comments, leaving fans to speculate about the engagement.
Priya Saroj is a lawyer and first-time Member of Parliament (MP) for Machhlishahr constituency in Uttar Pradesh, after winning the 2024 elections by a margin of 35,000 votes. The 26-year-old politician comes from a politically influential family, but initially wanted to be a judge before entering politics.
Rinku Singh will feature in India’s five-match T20I series against England
Rinku Singh is set to feature in India’s upcoming five-match T20I series against England, starting on Wednesday, January 22. This series is part of India’s preparations for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
The series will begin in Kolkata, with the next matches scheduled on 25 January in Chennai, 28 January in Rajkot, 31 January in Pune and the final match in Mumbai on 2 February. After the upcoming T20I series, Team India will also play three ODIs against England before the Champions Trophy.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against England, including key players such as Rinku Singh, Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya and Mohammad Shami. which is about to return internationally.
Meanwhile, Rinku Singh is unlikely to feature in the Indian squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy despite being backed by several cricket fans and pundits like Sanjay Manjrekar. The Indian ODI squad is more or less settled, and with the arrival of Karun Nair, Rinku’s choice becomes even more difficult.
