J Sainsbury is cutting 3,000 jobs as the UK’s second biggest supermarket looks to cut costs and streamline its operations.

The redundancies, which amount to 2 per cent of the group’s workforce, will result from the closure of the remaining in-store cafes, as well as sweeping changes at management level, with 20 per cent of senior management roles expected to be made redundant.

The decision comes after the company said last year it would cut costs by £1bn over the next three years. The reorganization also comes amid what chief executive Simon Roberts called a “particularly challenging cost environment”.

This is a developing story
