Ruben Amorim tries to explain ‘the worst Man Utd team in history’

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has decided to clarify his claim that his current number of players is the worst in the club’s illustrious history.

The Red Devils canceled a series of positive forms with a 3:1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, after which Amorim did not hide his feelings. It turned out to be him damaged the television in the dressing room out of frustration, rather than publicly claiming that he managed the worst United team of all time.

“I spoke more for myself than for my players,” Amorim explained on Wednesday’s eve UnitedEuropa League match with Rangers. “Because you have a coach who starts by losing seven games in the first ten.

“So it’s more for me. I was talking more about myself than the players. I also say in the same answer that I didn’t help my players and if you look around every time I say – and I say a lot – every time pushing around the players is not enough well, i never put the spotlight on my players.

“So I understand that I gave you that title and sometimes I get frustrated. Sometimes I shouldn’t say it that way, but it is what it is and it is what it is. Sometimes it’s really hard to hide the frustration in the moment.

“But the good thing is that I said the same things in a different way in the dressing room five minutes before. The response was quite normal because I am really open with my players. They have trained well, they are ready for this game and we will see tomorrow.

“I’m not taking responsibility for the players. What I’m saying is that the message you’re showing is that I’ve passed it on to the players. What I’ve been saying is that you have to look hard for a Manchester United team that has lost seven out of ten games and that’s my responsibility because the same players are doing worse with the new coach, that’s my only concern at the moment.

“I’m not taking anything from the players, what I’m saying is that we have to improve in the details, I explain that. The way we play, we’re too nervous with the ball, too nervous, really worried. And then if you have limited experience in this game, when you follow in this context, it’s really hard to go up, especially in a big club. That was my only point.

“Was it the best thing to do after that defeat? Maybe not. It is what it is, that’s how I am all the time. I don’t take responsibility from the players. I’m saying that I’m really, really direct. In fact, I’m saying that at the moment we have very bad results and that our results are currently very bad.

“It’s all together, the players, the staff, the professional staff, so I don’t take responsibility. I’m just pointing out that I’m the most responsible for the performance and results because I’m the coach and I have that responsibility.”

While apologizing for damaging a television in the locker room, Amorim admitted it played a role in his controversial comments.

“I’m a young guy and sometimes I make mistakes and that’s why I don’t talk after the game,” he said. “This game, I should have talked and maybe it was a mistake, and then I get more nervous and I go to the conference very nervous and you say things that I shouldn’t say, that’s it.

“Sometimes I’m a young guy and I make mistakes. I can’t promise you I won’t do it again, but I’ll try to improve.”
