Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli face contract termination for skipping domestic cricket? BCCI official reveals
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been in the news for the past few weeks. Indian cricket leaders failed miserably in Tests against Bangladesh, New Zealand as well as Australia, after which their place was questioned.
After their failure with the bat, there were several opinions which claimed that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli need to play domestic cricket to get back into form. Even head coach Gautam Gambhir mentioned that every player has to play domestic cricket to stay in rhythm.
The BCCI has given a lot of importance to domestic cricket in recent times. Last year, when Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan did not agree to play the domestic season, they were dropped from BCCI’s central contracts and were also left out of the Indian national cricket team in all three formats of the game.
With Kohli, however, there is a strong view within the board that if he wants to continue playing, he should bat with the pomp he used to – BCCI official
There were rumors that the same fate might befall Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. However, according to reports in Hindustan Times, it is learned that both the greats of Indian cricket are unlikely to face the same fate if they do not play in the Ranji Trophy.
A BCCI official mentioned that the governing body feels that if Virat Kohli wants to play, he has to bat like before and follow the basics. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he explained:
“With Kohli, however, there is a strong view within the board that if he wants to continue playing, he should bat with the pomp that he used to, and that might require a return to basics.”

The official mentioned that it was not a “dictat” to prioritize domestic cricket after India’s poor batting record in the tour of Australia. But he emphasized that if someone does not play the Ranji Trophy without valid fitness reasons then they may have to pay the price. He added:
“If players do not play the Ranji Trophy without valid medical or health reasons, it would have an impact on their future selection in India.”

He added that spending at the crease to regain confidence is essential for any player. He emphasized that no matter how experienced a player is, it is necessary for everyone. He explained:
“There is no substitute for spending time at the crease to get your confidence back. It’s up to the player, no matter how experienced, to understand that,”
Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been under a lot of pressure after failing in the Test series against Australia. While the middle-order player has amassed around 190 runs, the captain managed just 31 runs at an average of around 6.
