Indian national cricket team captain and senior debutant Rohit Sharma has been officially named in Mumbai’s 17-member squad for their 2024-25 Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. This high-profile match is scheduled to take place at the MCA Cricket Ground in Mumbai from January 23.

Apart from Rohit Sharma, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and star all-rounder Shivam Dube will also mesmerize the fans during the much-awaited Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir at the MCA Cricket Ground.

Rohit Sharma returns to Ranji Trophy after 9 years

In fact, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday (January 20) announced the 17-member squad for their next Ranji match against Jammu and Kashmir in Mumbai. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has confirmed that Ajinkya Rahane will lead Mumbai’s star-studded cricket team in the next round of India’s premier red-ball competition.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is all set to play under Ajinkya Rahane in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. It would be Hitman’s first Ranji appearance in nine years. The Indian Ranji Trophy opener’s last appearance was against Uttar Pradesh at the Wankhede Stadium in November 2015.

Well, apart from Rohit, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube, Shardul Thakur and Shreyas Iyer have also been named in Mumbai’s 17-member squad for their next Ranji game against Jammu and Kashmir. However, several familiar faces were absent from the lineup.

Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan ignored by MCA

Prithvi Shaw has again been dropped by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), while Sarfaraz Khan and his brother Musheer Khan have also failed to make the 17-member squad for their Ranji clash against Jammu and Kashmir at the MCA Cricket Ground.

The MCA in an official press release stated, “The Senior Selection Committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association, comprising Mr. Sanjay Patil (Chairman), Mr. Ravi Thaker, Mr. Jeetendra Thackeray, Mr. Kiran Powar and Mr. Vikrant Yeligeti, has selected is the following players to represent Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir to be played from 23 26 January 2025 at MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC, Mumbai.”

Notably, Rohit Sharma was going through the toughest phase of his career as he scored just 31 runs in five innings in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. Rohit’s Test statistics have raised doubts about his future in the Indian cricket team.

However, the Indian captain has been good in white-ball cricket in 2024, but his performance in Tests is alarming and puts him under immense pressure. Notably, India featured in just three ODIs in 2024 and Rohit amassed 157 runs while scoring 378 runs in 11 T20Is before retiring in June last year.

But the right-handed batsman could manage only 619 runs in 14 Tests in 2024. However, Rohit Sharma would now hope to regain his form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy in 2024-25.
