Rocky Flintoff: Former England captain’s teenage son Andrew scores century for Lions against Cricket Australia XI in Brisbane | Cricket news
Rocky Flintoff, the 16-year-old son of former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, scored a century for the Lions against a Cricket Australia XI on the second day of the tour match in Brisbane.
England posted 319 in reply to Australia’s 214 with captain Alex Davies (76) and Freddie McCann (51) both also with half-centuries.
The hosts, who won the toss and elected to bat, triggered a middle-order collapse by taking four wickets for just 14 runs, with Australian bowler Tom Whitney (4-72) the best.
However, Flintoff hit six sixes and nine boundaries en route to his milestone, while five England players were dismissed in single figures, including nightwatchman Shoaib Bashir (4) and Josh Tongue (5).
Having done away with England’s biggest resistance in the lower order, Flintoff was dropped to Ryan Hackney in front of Gabe Bell (1-45) in the 85th over.
England quick Sam Cook removed Australian captain Henry Hunt (1) cheaply during the second innings with opener Nivethan Radhakrishnan (24) and Tim Ward (8no) unbeaten.
Cricket Australia XI trail England Lions by 72 runs with nine wickets remaining.
Last year, Rocky became the youngest player to score a century for England Under-19 in the second test against Sri Lanka.
