Real Madrid have dealt a major blow in the Alphonso Davies transfer saga
Real Madrid target Alphonso Davies is close to agreeing a new contract with Bayern Munich, reports reveal.
Davies has entered the final six months of his current deal and was long expected to leave on a free transfer this summer, with Madrid eyeing a bargain offer after extension talks with Bayern stalled.
Earlier this week, Davies appeared to take another step closer to the exit door as his agent left Munich without an agreement through new terms. Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United All were expected to be contacted to discuss a possible free transfer.
Now, however, The Athletic have revealed that Davies is getting closer to signing a new contract with Bayern.
A deal has yet to be reached, but Bayern and Davies are now believed to be extremely close to shaking hands and ending the long-standing uncertainty surrounding the left-back’s future.
This could prove to be a significant blow for Madrid as Sky Sports Germany recently reported that Davies was actually part of a package deal along with midfielder Jamal Musial, with both players making it clear they wanted to continue playing alongside each other.
A new deal for Davies will therefore help Bayern’s hopes of tying down Musial to a new deal. German national team player, target for both Madrid and Manchester City, has 18 months left on his current contract.
