Premier League rivals eyeing surprise loan move for Marcus Rashford
Tottenham Hotspur have been named as suitors in the race to sign Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford.
After falling down the pecking order under new head coach Ruben Amorim, Rashford was made available for transfer this month, but the significant cost of the deal – a reported fee of £40m plus Rashford’s huge wages – has prompted clubs to explore loan options instead.
AC Milan is believed to be leading the race after reports of an official offer have surfaced earlier this week, but Daily Mail insist they are not alone as Tottenham are also in the hunt for Rashford’s signature.
Spurs are in a significant selection crisis, and a scary injury to Rodrigo Bentancur during Wednesday’s opening Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Liverpool further depleted the numbers available to manager Ange Postecoglou.
In attack, both Richarlison and Wilson Odobert are struggling with knee injuries, while there are doubts over Tim Werner’s role after Postecoglou openly criticized the German representative last month.
A loan move for Rashford would undoubtedly provide much-needed help in a number of positions around the world Spurs‘ front, but whether United would be willing to send the striker to the side who are currently one point ahead of them in the Premier League standings remains to be seen.
A lot could come down to Rashford’s wages. Reports suggest Milan are reluctant to pay even half his wages, worth over £300,000-a-week, which could open the door for Spurs if they can table a better offer. Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have also been linked.
