Postecoglou sees ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ amid Tottenham’s injury crisis

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou says he can finally see an end to his side’s injury crisis as key players begin to return.

Cristian Romero was spotted in training on Thursday and Rodrigo Bentancur returned against Hoffenheim in the Europa League after being sidelined with concussion.

Micky van de Ven is expected next week, while Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario should be available in early February.

Spurs have been reduced to the bare bones in recent weeks, with just 14 senior players available for their game on Thursday night.

And while there has been another major blow with the loss of Dominic Solanke, Postecoglou remains confident he can bring back his players and make some additions before the transfer window closes.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash with Leicester, he said: “We should have a light at the end of the tunnel in a couple of weeks, it’s not too bad, but at the same time there’s always the possibility that before those guys come back we lose a couple of these guys [current players in form].

“It’s always challenging, it’s what we go through.

“It’s been two months of hard work for the players, we’ve just been trying to support them as much as we can. Our schedule will not get any easier.

“The players’ resilience and determination to go out there and perform is a fantastic thing to witness, I couldn’t be more proud of them.

“We will benefit from the growth of our younger players but we have to be careful with them, we can’t ask 18-year-olds to keep dropping in and out.

“I meant Archie [Gray] out of position was great Lucas [Bergvall] worked his socks off for the time and Mikey [Moore] got an assist.

“So there’s no doubt we’ll benefit from these players for many years to come, they’ve had a tough start to their careers. I think that’s very positive.”

He added about the transfers: “All that is known, nothing has changed in the last 24 hours.

“We knew with Dom probably a few days ago, I had a press conference in the meantime, so all these things are known.”
