Parthiv Patel throws out fake quotes
Former India wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel has rubbished false quotes doing the rounds on social media claiming that Virat Kohli did not want Rohit Sharma to play Tests under him. Parthiv Patel clarified that the quotes about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are untrue and urged people to check their sources.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma faced intense scrutiny after their poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Both struggled for form before the series, managing just two half-centuries in 12 innings during the Indian national cricket team’s 0-3 win against New Zealand at home.
The recent performances of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have raised doubts about their place
Their performance raised doubts about their place in the Test side. Kohli responded to some of the criticism with a century in the first Test in Perth, while Rohit missed the match due to the birth of his second child. However, the performance of both the players declined and India ended up losing the five-match series 1-3.
Kohli finished the series with less than 200 runs, averaging 23.75 through nine innings. Rohit had another disappointing performance, scoring just 31 runs in five innings, at a poor average of 6.20 in three Tests. Rohit had to skip the final Test in Sydney and Jasprit Bumrah was named captain.
“I did not say this, and this is not true either” – Parthiv Patel
The fake quotes, which went viral on social media, falsely attributed the statement to Parthiv Patel. The quote stated that Virat Kohli did not want Rohit Sharma to play Test cricket under him.
Patel denied such claims, calling the quote false and urging people to check their sources. He also used the hashtag #fakenews to clear up misinformation.
“Virat Kohli didn’t want Rohit to play Test in his captaincy as Rohit was equal to Virat in ODIs and T20i, 3 double hundreds, 11 WC hundreds and 5 T20i hundreds. Virat was ahead of Rohit only in Test, was is I’m afraid Rohit would be his equal in all formats,” read the fake quote that went viral on social media.
“I didn’t say this. And it’s not true either. Check your sources, because they are giving you very false information…”. He also used the hashtag “#fakenews,” Parthiv Patel wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
