Newcastle are eyeing a £30m star who would be devastating with Isak & Gordon
Newcastle Unitedthe winning streak is over.
On Saturday, the Magpies suffered a shock 4-1 defeat at home to Bournemouth, falling behind early on, just Bruno Guimarães‘ header to level things midway through the second half, but the Cherries hit back at the top of the half, before scoring twice more in stoppage time to seal a convincing victory.
Prior to that, the Toon Army made it nine consecutive wins in all competitions, achieving it for only the second time in the club’s Premier League history, previously under Kevin Keegan in 1994.
During this period, they moved to Champions League stains and are located on top EFL Cup Final, beating Arsenal 2-0 in the first leg of the semi-final in North London but Eddie Howe still looking for reinforcements this month.
Newcastle are targeting a new wide forward
As reported Lee Ryder of the ChronicleNewcastle “broke the rule” Celtic winger Nicolas Kühn, claiming the Magpies have “sent senior scouts” to Glasgow to examine his performances.
Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports Deutschland also believes Fulham and Brentford were “inquiring” about Kühn, and Celtic valued him at 30 million pounds Mark Pirie of the Daily Recordalthough his agent Christian Nerlinger claims his client is in no hurry to leave.
Kühn came to Celtic from Rapid Vienna for just £3 million in January 2024, making little impact during his first half-season in Glasgow, scoring just three goals in 18 appearancesbut it turned out later that he had problems with his teeth, that he needed wisdom tooth surgery, that he could not eat for almost two weeks due to excruciating pain, “resulting in drastic weight loss”.
What Nicolas Kühn would bring to Newcastle
Now, however, without any health problems, Kühn has been unstoppable, scoring 16 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions this season, averaging a goal every 71 minutes.
Ryan McGinlay on Twitter described the German as “the best player in Scotland”, alongside former Everton, Birmingham and Scotland midfielder James McFadden describing him as “absolutely outstanding”.
So could the former RB Leipzig, Ajax and Bayern Munich winger soon leave the runaway leaders of the Scottish Premiership and move to Premier League?
Given that both Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon have scored 17 frees this season and been on target eight times in all competitions, the Magpies are looking for a right winger to complete their front three, especially with Miguel Almiron is close to leaving.
So let’s evaluate the comparison between Gordon and Kühn.

The table shows that Kühn and Gordon are actually very different players stylistically, but for that very reason they were an excellent wing combination.
Kühn is much more of a goalscoring striker, highlighted by the fact that he has scored more goals, provided more assists and a higher percentage of his shots hitting the target, with the obvious caveat that he primarily plays at a lower level, although six of his outings have been in the Champions League.
Gordon, meanwhile, is much more of a dribbler, accumulating exponentially more tackle attempts and progressive carries, while touching the ball nearly three times as often as the German.
Another stat worth noting is the fact that Celtic’s player outperforms his xG, while Gordon underperforms his xG, to an almost identical degree.
So picture this: Gordon gets a lot of touches on the ball and Kühn draws opportunities.
The pair would make a pretty formidable front three, along with Isak, who is ex Rangers player and manager Ally McCoist believes it is “the best all-round centre-forward in the league at the moment”.
Sounds good doesn’t it, Newcastle fans?
