Man Utd will miss out on top transfer target Ruben Amorim
Nuno Mendes has reportedly changed his attitude about winter transfer to Manchester United and is now studying towards signing a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
United head coach In November, Ruben Amorim first emphasized his desire to sign a new left back 2025, and ties to Mendes grew rapidly in the days that followed.
The 22-year-old, whose current contract expires at the end of next season, rose to fame under Amorim at Sporting CP and was claimed to be eager for an instant reunion.
PSG, however, refused to accept defeat in their bid to keep Mendes and the French publication L’Equipe to declare that the Ligue 1 giants are close to getting their wish. In fact, the representatives of the left back now admit that their main priority is the renewal of the contract.
Mendes is no longer expressing interest in going behind the scenes, reportedly after being impressed by manager Luis Enrique’s tactical tweaks that have allowed him more attacking freedom in recent months.
“I see him as always,” Enrique told the media on Friday when asked if the speculation had affected Mendes. “That is more a question for him than for me. But I can see him very well.”
United will continue to monitor the situation, but will likely have to pursue other objectives. Meanwhile, Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot will continue to operate on the left in the absence of the ever-injured Luke Shaw, with Amorim operating the wing-back system that enjoyed great success with Sporting.
