Man Utd are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper as a departure on the first of January is imminent
Manchester United are on the lookout for a new back-up goalkeeper as Andre Onane’s current player, Altay Bayindir, approaches January departurethe report states.
The Turkish number two moved to Old Trafford from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 and has been given precious few chances under Erik ten Haagappearing just once in his entire debut campaign. Bayindir have only scored three times in this season’s Carabao Cup, but after scoring four goals in a chaotic defeat to Tottenham HotspurUnited are no longer in the competition.
As the winter transfer window opens, Bayindir is thought to want to leave in search of more regular first-team time. The 26-year-old made his way between the posts for the Turkish national team before falling behind Mert Gunok in the pecking order after sitting on the United bench.
With Bayindir on his way out of the club, United are looking for a new number two and three goalkeeper, according to Sky Sports Germany.
Tom Heaton completes the trio of goalkeepers filling United’s squads, but the 38-year-old is out of contract in the summer.
In addition to the backups, it is also said to be United scouting the new first goalkeeper after concerns about Andre Onana resurfaced in recent weeks. The enigmatic – if, at times, erratic – Cameroon international has a below-average save percentage this season, but boasts an impressive record when considering the quality and quantity of shots conceded.
Still, United they have been linked with Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen and are believed to be tracking Royal Antwerp stopper Senne Lammens. Although Verbruggen is the Premier League’s established number one, 22-year-old Lammens could be brought in as a serious challenger to Onana’s position without immediately dethroning the club’s current custodian.
If United are to strengthen in any position during this crucial winter window, they will have to sell before they can buy – as head coach Ruben Amorim has been at pains to point out.
