Alexander-Arnold enters the last six months of his contract this month, Madrid tried to close the deal at a lower price on the first day of the transfer windowonly for Liverpool to emphasize that they have no desire to sign a January contract.

Madrid have continued negotiations with Alexander-Arnold in the background and are believed to have already reached an agreement with him over free transfer in the summer. That sparked second January approachand Madrid want to sign Alexander-Arnold immediately to help end their defensive injury crisis.

However, MARCH state Liverpool have made it clear once again that they will not allow Alexander-Arnold to leave before the window closes. Not only do they not want to lose such a key figure while trying to win both the Premier League and the Champions League, but Liverpool are in too strong a financial position to be tempted to accept a lower price contract for Alexander-Arnold. Madrid they are believed to have proposed a fee of around £20m.

While the rejection of Madrid’s latest approach leaves Liverpool vulnerable to losing Alexander-Arnold for free in the summer, there appears to be a belief within Anfield that the right-back’s impact on a title-winning campaign is worth more than Madrid are prepared to offer.
