Leaked information about the Indian composition! Rohit Sharma leads, Karun Nair out, Jasprit Bumrah In
Veteran opener Rohit Sharma will retain his role as the ODI captain of Team India for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan and Dubai. Bowling star Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be included in the 15-man squad for the tournament despite injury concerns.
BCCI has confirmed that Rohit Sharma will remain the captain of the Indian ODI team and the official announcement will be made during a press conference on January 18. The squads for the Champions Trophy and the upcoming ODI against England will be revealed during the same event.
Rohit Sharma’s future came into focus after the Sydney Test
Rohit Sharma’s future in the Indian team came into focus after he opted out of the playing XI in the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this month. However, he clarified that it should not be seen as retirement.
The 37-year-old struggled with form, especially during the home series against New Zealand, where India suffered a 3-0 defeat. Rohit scored just 91 runs in six innings at an average of 15.16 against New Zealand and his form further deteriorated in the BGT, scoring just 31 runs in five innings.
To regain his form, Rohit trained with the Mumbai team in preparation for the second phase of the Ranji Trophy. After ending his T20I career with a World Cup victory in Barbados last year, Rohit Sharma is now aiming to lead India to another Champions Trophy title.
Jasprit Bumrah will be included in the preliminary squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the Champions Trophy remains uncertain after suffering a back spasm during the last Test against Australia in Sydney. According to a report in India Today, Bumrah will be included in the preliminary squad but his final selection for the main tournament will depend on his fitness.
The selectors are reportedly keen to see him play at least one competitive game before the event to gauge his condition. Sanju Samson and Karun Nair are not expected in the squad. The three ODIs against England will be India’s last matches in the format before the start of the Champions Trophy.
Sanju Samson and Karun Nair are not expected to make the squad
Karun Nair was impressive in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored 752 runs in 8 matches, including five centuries in seven innings. His performance made him a surprise candidate for the Champions Trophy squad. However, selectmen reportedly feel it would be unwise to bring him back.
On the other hand, Sanju Samson is unlikely to feature in the Champions Trophy ODI squad despite being included in England’s T20I. The selectors are not considering him because of his absence from the Vijay Hazare Trophy, because they want the national team to play in domestic competitions.
