Joshua Zirkzee makes a decision on Man Utd’s future as the two Serie A sides chase a January transfer


Joshua Zirkzee is determined to fight for his future at Manchester United, a report claims, despite growing interest in his services from Serie A.

United paid £36.5m to sign Zirkzee from Bologna in the summer, but the Netherlands international has struggled for both playing time and form. He scored four times in 27 appearances and was recently booed by his own fans substituted midway through the first half of United’s defeat by Newcastle.

He has long been speculated to return to Serie A, and reports have even claimed it United wanted to cut ties with Zirkzee. However, Daily Mail states that Zirkzee has no desire to withdraw his punishment for his tenure at Old Trafford yet.

Zirkzee is reportedly keen to play a role in United’s resurgence and is not currently considering a return to Serie A, where he made his name with Bologna last season.

After impressing for Thiago Motta’s side last year, Zirkzee’s stock remains high in Italy, with both Napoli and Juventus reportedly chasing a January move move for a 23-year-old. Juve, who now manage Motta, were also interested in the summer when Zirkzee eventually decided to join United.

Head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that United will not be able to sign new players this month without selling some first, but may have to find an alternative source of income if Zirkzee is not ready to move on.
