Jordan Nobbs and Shaun Goater: Improvement of Aston Ville Women, WSL Demolition of Records and Cometing with Man City Women | Football news
After the difficult start of the season, Aston Villa Women appeared to have turned into a bend. Two key parts of that, Jordan Nobbs and Shaun Goater, explain how it happened.
Aston Villa did not win the WSL game until November under former manager Robert de Pauwa, who joined the club only in the summer. Goater, who was an auxiliary coach, was then asked to take over the temporary duty.
Under the former striker, Aston Villa is undefeated in four games in all competitions. Goater said the team needed results and that quickly – and that’s exactly what happened.
“There was a lot of positive at the beginning of the season, a lot of energy, but we didn’t come up with the win we needed,” he told exclusively for Sky Sports.
“In a specific game, I think it was Liverpool, it just turned out to be missing a little confidence that we couldn’t go over the line in the sense of creating a chance or hits. From that moment, confidence fell, a little faith fell.
“My main thought was to get girls to be confident, to believe in themselves and say ‘you are a quality player, go express yourself, show the world what you are doing, what you are capable of’, and this is what they have done.
“You tend to learn a lot more in your difficult moments. Touch a little wood, in the matches I played, we had no tough moments. In the Everton match, there was a period we all held together, we dug deep because there was a momentum They created, but we still managed to endure in that game and draw.
“I think if you want to be a top -notch team, the constant goal of clean goals is also important from the front player who defends to the end. When I say pure goal, most people will think, ‘Oh, he talks about defenders or defensive midfielder, but first defend front.
“Also, if you score goals, the attacks also come from the defender who start playing the ball and building it. So, we have to be a little firmer and let us go through the matches and win 1-0.
“So what I learned is to continue to believe in myself, believe in my philosophy, and just make sure that girls completely believe in what they can do and continue to support them that way.”
Goater will now support the new main trainer Aston Ville Natalia Arroyo, who was appointed Wednesday, while the club wants to pull away from the outburst problem.
And Nobbs, who just turned two at the club, enjoyed working under a temporary coach, saying Sky Sports: “Time has been flying and there have been a lot of changes since I first came here.
“This season did not go the way we probably wanted, but if you watched our matches, we gave better performance, in my opinion, but last year. We just have to take points of that match and we haven’t succeeded, which is the main thing we have to focus.
“Shaun is such a positive guy. When he came, he immediately had the same football brain as what I like to talk about. When you have it, it is easier to connect with the manager. He knows what the players need to want.
“It was a refreshment to talk to him, and he also brings a lot of confidence to the team and me. It is really easy to work with him.”
Nobbs: I loved every minute of my 200 WSL games
Like Goater, Nobbs has been in the game for a long time. Recently, she broke the record of the WSL performance – 193 games played, which has now increased to 200 – and does not show stop signs.
Referring to her turning point, she said, “I knew he was coming in 193. Our media team did a great job and did it special for me.
“As a player, you don’t really count your games week to week, so when there were actually my 200, Shaun eventually congratulated me [of the game] And I had no idea what he was about.
“I was at the moment of football and I thought he meant it about Villa and I said, ‘I didn’t play so many matches!’
“But as a player, I was always blind and valuable and wanted to compete at the highest level, so it is to do it for two clubs in the league, it is really a special play to play a big role in a woman’s game and get a lot of ups and downs, but I think I loved every minute of playing in this league.
“You still learn as a player every week. It doesn’t matter what age you are, you still want to progress or have new challenges.
“It’s always a strange period when you start to get older and that thought goes through your head a little, but currently my retirement is not in my head. I’m in shape, I started every league match this season, I’m still in a high -level place at a good place.
“You never know what’s going on in football, things can completely change your mind, but I’m still completely focused and concentrated on football.
“I start to get my B license next month, so it will be a good option to get while I still play the game. I just like to talk about football, so if there is something, I can stay still part of the women’s game in the future, it would was my goal. “
Goater: City Game will be weird but we are all professionals
Goater’s last game at the temporary head of Aston Ville could not have been a poetic way because he took over his former team, Manchester City. Not only is it a legend of the male team, but last season he was also auxiliary coach Garethu Taylor.
“I was always looking forward to this and I will feel strange, but we are all professionals,” Goater said. “I’m going to play the game there and try to win.
“All people in Man City, I know and respect them. They are a good team with a good manager who plays in a good way, and it will be a tough match, but we want to try to give our game.
“I add new details to the players, but City has set high standards. They probably boiled where they expected, but they would take off the dust from themselves and continue to try to get momentum and return to the game chase after the head of the club, it is simply a club mentality.
“But we have a match to play. We want to try to do it as hard as possible and try to win.”
Nobbs also played her part of the game against Man City, and she described each result against them as ‘big’.
She said, “I think we always gave the City well. We had results from them in the past or we were very close, so it’s a big match.
“Shaun just wanted to play football – basic, but sometimes it’s key. It’s not easy when you’re halfway through the season and the manager goes and you have to pick up quickly. You don’t want to change too much, so I think Shaun was simply simple.
“But City, of course, they are a great team with top players, so it won’t be easy. But if we can get something out of that game, it’s huge for us.”
