John Kirby Says Biden, Trump Worked As ‘One Team’ In Securing Ceasefire Agreement: ‘A Lot Of Credit’
White House National Security Adviser John Kirby said he was “convinced” of that Ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas it will be implemented after 467 days of war and says it has “a lot of credit”.
“We’re not too focused on credit,” Kirby told “Story” on Wednesday. “As the president said, I think we’re approaching this as a team, a team of Americans, to try to get Americans home with their families. And that’s what matters. I think it has a lot of merit. And it’s not just here in the United States… Egypt, Qatar, Prime Minister Netanyahuwho made some brave decisions during these negotiations, and a lot of credit can be given to all of them.”
Kirby identified Steve Witkoff, President-elect Donald Trump’s new special envoy for the Middle East, as a key figure in brokering the deal.
HOSTAGE DEAL SHOWS HAMAS TOOK TRUMP’S ‘HELL TO PAY’ THREAT SERIOUSLY
“We worked on this as a team, as the American people would expect us to,” Biden’s national security communications adviser said.
“The president has made it clear to us on the national security team that we need to make sure that the Trump team, especially Mr. Witkoff, is integral and fully invested in everything we do because they will own it when we leave office,” he revealed. is Kirby.
“Mr. Witkoff has been traveling to the region. He and Brett McGurk, our special coordinator for the Middle East, have been talking multiple times a day for the past week as we’ve worked through the nitty-gritty details and tried to finish Mr. Witkoff’s credit for the work he’s been able to enjoy working with us.”
Kirby says the “bottom line” is “getting a deal, bringing the hostages home, ending the war.”
“And President-elect Trump and certainly President Biden they shared that goal and made sure their teams also shared that outcome,” he added.
As of Wednesday, Kirby said he was “confident” the deal would be implemented, although he acknowledged there was still “hard work” to be done, following the conflict with Hamas that has been ongoing since the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.
President-elect Donald Trump warned Hamas on January 7 that “all hell would break loose” if the hostages were not returned by his inauguration.
The agreement is supposed to enter into force on January 19, just a day before President-elect Donald Trumpinauguration.
Kirby stated that “a major hurdle has been overcome,” which included finalizing the deal, getting it signed and in place. “Hopefully we’ll see some families reunited this weekend,” he said.
