Ipswich can finally move on from Burns with the £30million signing of the “explosive” star
The January transfer window has officially opened for two weeks and Ipswich Town they are reportedly closing in on another signing this month.
Jaden Philogene is reportedly set to join Premier League rival Aston Villa in the deal worth at least £21 millionthus becoming the second reinforcement after the arrival of Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta.
However, bringing in new players to strengthen the squad could mean that Kieran McKenna he will have to be ruthless with whoever he decides to keep as part of the group before the deadline.
One player who could be ruthlessly sacked before the February deadline is winger Wes Burns, who has struggled to make the step up to the Premier League.
Wes Burns’ form this season
The 30-year-old forward started ten of his 16 he is performing in the best league for the Tractor Boys in this period, and he has yet to write his name among the scorers.
Burns, who has been used at times on the right wing and at right-back, has zero goals and one assist in those 16 matches, showing that he has failed to offer consistent quality at the top of the pitch.
The Wales international also just finished 70% of his pass attempts and lost 60% of their head-to-head in the division, as they were loose in possession and struggled to cope with the physicality of the Premier League.
Ipswich can finally move on from Burns by signing one of their reported targets, Ben Doak, to replace him, freeing up space in the squad for McKenna to cash in mercilessly on the experienced winger.
Why Ipswich should sign Ben Doak
The Tractor Boys are supposedly interested in the contract to sign the Scottish representative from Liverpool, who reportedly values him at around 30 million pounds – with the interest of Crystal Palace as well.
Doak, currently on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship, has been in impressive form for club and country this season and could come in as an upgrade on Burns, as well as having greater long-term potential and value.
At 19, the winger is 11 years younger and would therefore have more time on his side to be developed by McKenna and the coaching staff, which could make him an even more valuable asset down the road.
Doak created two ‘big chances’ in four Nations League starts for Scotland this season and has caught the eye with his Championship form for Boro.

As you can see in the table above, the teenage starlet, who was described as “explosive” Aston Villa’s John McGinn, has been directly involved in eight goals in 18 league games this term.
While Burns just made it six goals and four assists in 35 Championship appearances during Ipswich’s promotion campaign last season.
This suggests that Doak, despite his age and inexperience, could immediately offer more than the Welshman at the top of the pitch, particularly as a creative threat for the Tractor Boys.

So McKenna could finally move on from Burns and potentially cash in on him before the end of the transfer window by signing Doak as his direct replacement this month.
