‘He’s back’: The cover of Trump’s inauguration of Time magazine caused joyful reactions from conservatives
Time magazine released its inaugural cover Sunday ahead of Donald Trump’s return to the White House, an animation of the future president pushing everything off the Oval Office Resolute table along with the caption “He’s Back.”
The weather is also announced piece with a cover headlined “Donald Trump’s Disorder Is Back.”
The president-elect was appointed Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2024. The magazine already traditionally honors the winner of the presidential elections, since in 2020 the award was received by President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and in 2016 Trump also deserved the award.
A pair of aviator sunglasses, which President Biden is known to wear often, are also seen in the illustration being wiped off the table. Conservatives have reacted with glee to the headline on social media as Trump prepares to complete his incredible political comeback when he takes the oath of office.
Commentators pointed to the title of the illustration “He’s Back” and the symbolic departure of Biden from office.
“Trump, of course, is an unpredictable force for change himself. Whatever one may think of him, he has changed America in ways unimaginable ten years ago,” says the Time Magazine article. “He is arguably the most influential change agent to occupy the White House since Franklin Delano Roosevelt.”
Others pointed to the previous Time Magazine Trump coversincluding a 2017 edition that similarly placed Trump behind a Resolute desk with the headline “nothing to see here.”
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., posted three clapping X emojis in reaction to the cover.
The Time Magazine article said it was up to Trump and America to keep the oath.
“As he takes office for the second time, the promise at the center of his inaugural spectacle now seems less an expression of the insecurity of its creators than an expression of wisdom. And those worried about what is to come can be glad that on August 27, 1787, the delegates to the convention decided to extend their the original version of the presidential oath from a simple promise to ‘faithfully perform the duties’ of the office to a further commitment to ‘preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.’ It is up to Trump and America to ensure that the oath is kept,” the text concludes.
