European stocks slide as China’s slump shakes investors

European markets fell on Friday as concerns over China’s faltering economy weighed on several key sectors.

The main continental Stoxx 600 index slipped 0.3%. Shares in car makers and luxury goods led the sell-off as China is a key market for them, with weaker-than-expected manufacturing data from the Asian country overshadowing Beijing’s promises to revive faltering growth.

Regional stock exchanges also had problems. Paris’s CAC 40 was down 0.8%, Frankfurt’s Dax was down 0.4% and London’s FTSE 100 was down 0.1% in early trading.
