Erling Haaland signed a new contract for nine and a half years, according to which he will stay in Manchester City until 2034.
Haaland’s previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2027, but he has now put pen to paper on one of football’s longest contracts which will see him turn 34 by the time it expires.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, having scored 111 goals in 126 games since joining City in June 2022 from Borussia Dortmund.
City, sixth in the Premier League, are rebuilding with defenders this month Abdukodir Husanov and Vitor Reis from Lens and Palmeiras that is, close to signing while a a job was arranged for Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Omar Marmoush.
Haaland scored 10 goals in the first five Premier League games of the season, including back-to-back hat-tricks, but has since scored just six more in 16 league games. In the ranking of the best scorers, he is in second place behind Mo Salah, who has 18 goals.
Haaland won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Super Cup in his two and a half seasons with City.
Man City signed Haaland on a five-year deal for £51m, paying his release clause in a deal that was expected to rise to a total of £85.5m when agents’ fees, signing bonus and other costs are taken into account.
Haaland scored 86 goals in 89 games for Dortmund after joining from RB Salzburg in January 2020.

Erling Haaland’s new contract is bad news for Manchester City’s Premier League rivals. With 79 goals in 87 games since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, plus a further 32 in 39 appearances in other competitions, his goalscoring exploits have been outstanding.
His Premier League goals tally is 24 more than anyone else in the same time period, with Mohamed Salah, who has 55, the only player to reach the half-century mark. Haaland is in a league of his own when it comes to the art of putting the ball into the net.
After just two and a half seasons, he is close to breaking into the top 50 Premier League goalscorers. Keep up his current pace and he will be level with Fernando Torres (85) before the end of next month. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s total (95) will equal May.
The difference, of course, is that those two players, and all those above him, needed much more time to reach such numbers. Haaland has set new standards in the competition, averaging an unprecedented 0.99 goals per 90 minutes since his debut.
With nine-and-a-half years on his new contract, and still only 24, he should have plenty of time to be a name at the very top of the pile. Alan Shearer’s total of 260 goals came from 441 games. Haaland probably won’t need that much.
