Dinesh Karthik turns Superman, takes blindness to remove Azmatullah Omarzai in SA20
Former Indian cricket team keeper Dinesh Karthik has been giving his all for Paarl Royals in the ongoing SA20. The right-hander came up with a stunning effort from behind the stumps during the match against MI Cape Town on Wednesday 15th January, which was played at Boland Park in Paarl.
Dinesh Karthik, who became the first Indian player to play SA20, made sure he played a decent role for his team. Although he hasn’t been that good with the bat so far, with his gloves behind the stumps he has ensured that he gives his all.

One such attempt came during the match against MI Cape Town when he took a sensational catch and removed the opening batsman Azmatullah Omarzai. Even at the age of 39, the goal-kicker showed great skill and enabled his team to make a key breakthrough.
Dayyaan Galiem hit a short delivery that was flat. Azmatullah Omarzai thought of playing the shot to the side but the ball bit back and took the thick edge off the closed face of the bat. There was a big deflection and it looked like the batsman was going to save.
But Dinesh Karthik, behind the stumps, came up with Superman. The shooting guard jumped full length to the right and caught it with his right hand. The ball bounced off him as he fell to the ground, but he showed great skill and managed to catch it with his chest.

Dinesh Karthik didn’t have a great outing with the bat but luckily Paarl Royals won the game. The keeper-batsman scored 10 runs off 6 balls with the help of one boundary. But the hero of the innings for the team was the young Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
The 18-year-old left-handed bowler smashed 83 off 52 balls, including eight boundaries and three sixes. Thanks to his heroics with the bat, Paarl Royals left to chase the target of 159 runs with 6 wickets in hand. This was their second win in SA20 2025.
Great position after two home wins, very happy and satisfied – David Miller
Paarl Royals captain David Miller spoke about the win, saying it was a great effort from his side. He talked about the change in tactics and said that it was important for him to finish the game. He explained:
“Great performance. Restricting them to 158 was a big effort, the spinners did a great job. It’s nice to change tactics like that within the team. T20 changes a lot so it’s important to finish the game, you can easily let the game get away from you. Great position after two wins at home, very happy and pleased with the fans too.”
