Dani Olmo removed from La Liga website as Barcelona registration expires
La Liga removed Dani Olmo from the squad on the Barcelona team page after his registration expired on December 31.
Having only initially been registered as part of a temporary emergency measure stemming from Andreas Christensen’s injury, Olmo faces an incredibly uncertain future. Barcelona already is failed in two attempts to extend Olmo’s registration through the court, but he was hoping to formalize a deal worth 120 million euros sell some of the VIP seats inside the Camp Nou in time to settle Olmo’s registration.
However, as he noted Mundo Deportivothey were unable to provide sufficient evidence of future payments to La Liga, which therefore did not approve the deal, leaving Barcelona trying to resolve Olm’s situation.
“LALIGA informs that until today, December 31, FC Barcelona has not presented an alternative that would, in accordance with LALIGA’s regulations on economic control, allow the registration of any player from the following January 2,” La Liga said in a statement.
The biggest complication for Barcelona is the La Liga decision which states that a player can only be registered once by one team per season, and that he cannot de-register and re-register at another time unless there is a valid reason for doing so, such as an injury that temporarily sidelined Christensen earlier this season.
Barcelona’s next move was to appeal to the Spanish Football Federation, the RFEF.
“FC Barcelona informs that it has applied for a new license for the players Daniel Olmo and Pau Víctor to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF),” the team announced.
Reports, however, claimed that the RFEF could not grant a new license without La Liga’s approval, which was not forthcoming.
If Barcelona fail to extend Olmo’s registration, the midfielder will be able to terminate his contract immediately and join another team, with several major leaguers are apparently interested.
If Olmo activates that option, he is still believed to be entitled to every penny he has been promised from his current deal, which runs until 2030, while Barcelona would also be responsible for paying his €48m transfer fee in full to RB Leipzig, which would then have to be paid immediately and in full because there would no longer be a contract under which Barcelona could amortize the fee. Reports claim that Barcelona’s full commitment to Olmo could reach a total of €130 million.
Olmo’s agent has he publicly stated his desire to stay in Barcelonawhile the Blaugrana-colored hearts in his photos from the New Year’s celebration also appeared as a confirmation of his commitment to Barca.
