Crystal Palace have struck gold on the Eagles star who is worth more than Esse

Oliver Glasner Eagles managed to climb to Premier League table with a recent upturn in form, they are now 12th in the division, have 27 points from 22 games played, winning six, drawing nine and losing seven.

Since the start of December, Crystal Palace have lost just two games, both defeats against Arsenal, once in the Premier League and once in the EFL Cup.

This run of form has seen draws against the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, and some big wins against the likes of West Ham, Brighton and Leicester.

They seem to have finally gotten over Michael Olise’s summer exit.

Glasner’s side have started to find the goals more regularly in the last few games, with a front three now established and starting to lose after Olise left for Bayern Munich.

Of interest to many of Europe’s biggest teams, he left Selhurst Park in his wake dazzling their adoring fans on a regular basis.

In total, the French winger scored 16 goals and recorded 25 assists in 90 dates with 16 of those hits comes in just 19 games in 2023/24.

So it was always going to be hard to replace him, but Ismaila Sarr is starting to prove his worth.

After Olise left Palace in the summer, the Eagles went ahead and signed Sarr from Marseille, joining the club on a fee of around £12.5 million.

Now he’s finally starting to settle down, impacting games and helping the Eagles get points on the board. Since the 26-year-old signed, he has signed made 27 appearancesscoring four goals, three assists and playing a total of 1635 minutes.

It took until the end of November for Sarr to fully impact games with his performance, but since then the Senegalese winger has shown why Steve Parish and Co struck gold in bringing him to the club. He has found a really nice balance in attack with Eberechi Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateto, which has contributed to Glasner’s side’s good run in the Premier League.

Sarro’s transfer value has already risen slightly since he joined, with his market value now stands at £17m according to Transfermarkt.

In context, that’s already worth more than their new signing, Romain Esse, who joined from Millwall this month on fee of around £12m (potentially rising to £14.5m with add-ons).

Esse he has made 26 appearances for Millwall this seasonscoring five goals and one assist in 2165 minutes. He has shown his versatility playing on both the left and right wing, as well as through the middle when needed.

called “a superstar in the making” by Millwall manager Gary Rowett, the youngster could benefit from challenging Sarr for a starting spot alongside Eze behind the striker, with both offering slightly different attributes in that role.

Having Sarr ahead of Esse could allow the young winger to settle in at a club with less pressure, not be immediately thrust into the limelight, build his experience and show quality with rotated/substitute appearances, likely to spark fan support from his excellent technical abilities.
