Colbert laments his ‘last appearance of the Biden administration,’ jokes he may be pulled from the program under Trump
CBS late night host Stephen Colbert mourned the end of Biden’s presidency Thursday, noting that it was his last episode of “The Late Show” during President Biden’s tenure.
Calling it “the end of an era,” Colbert also joked that he may not be on the air again during President-elect Donald Trump’s second term, which begins Monday, Jan. 20.
“Yeah, that was good. It was good, Joe. Thank you. Thank you for all your hard work. The next time you all see me, Donald Trump will be president. And you might not see me,” the anti-Trump comedian told viewers .

During his opening monologue, the late-night host noted that the broadcast would be bittersweet given Biden’s exit from the Oval Office.
“Tonight it’s just a little, a little, a little sweet and sour, a little semi-sweet chocolate chip. It’s the end of an era, because this is our last performance of the Biden administration.”
The home crowd responded with a sigh of disappointment.
The host added that over the “next four years” the show’s crew will “film this one day at a time.”
Colbert’s show has provided unwavering resistance against Trump in the form of jokes throughout the future president’s political career.

Colbert didn’t completely spare Biden a jab or two. In one instance, the presenter mocked him for the “winding metaphor” he used during his presidential farewell address on Wednesday.
The program played a clip of the president saying, “Like America, the Statue of Liberty does not stand still. It is on the march and literally moving. It is built to sway back and forth to withstand the fury of stormy weather, to stand the test of time, because storms always come.” .She sways a few centimeters, but never falls into the current below.

“Who are you going to call? Not me. Joe Biden out, everyone!” Colbert said, ending the segment.

Last March, before Biden’s exit from the 2024 presidential race in July, Colbert hosted the glitzy fundraiser for the president’s re-election campaign.
