Clarence House Chase: Phenomenal Jonbon too good for Energumene in Ascot clash as Nicky Henderson looks Cheltenham | Racing news

Jonbon subdued Energumene to score another fantastic triumph in the BetMGM Clarence House Chase at Ascot.

Nico de Boinville was positive from the start and soon established a lead at the front of the 8/13 favourite.

There was a moment in the race where Nicky Henderson’s charge wasn’t quite as fluent in the fences and this allowed Paul Townend to close in on Energumene who entered the field straight.

However, Jonbon struck again and rallied in the jumping section when it mattered most, galloping hard to prevail by six and a half lengths.

The JP McManus-owned nine-year-old made it 17 wins from 20 races under rules and strengthened his position as favorite for the Chase Champion Queen Mother at Cheltenham.

More to come…
