“Chelsea remain keen to bring in a new midfielder this window at Enzo Maresca’s request,” Phillips wrote earlier this week.
“However, it does not have to be a new midfielder and there are still chances that either Lesley Ugochukwu or Andrey Santos could be recalled, SPTC sources heard again yesterday.
“There is a chance that Santos will be recalled along the way, something we didn’t expect to happen until now, potentially.
“Chelsea have tried to turn Kobbie Mainoo’s head at Manchester United by approaching his agents, and this is still potentially what could happen this month, if the player decides he is keen on the move.”
While this is far from advanced, Chelsea appear to be serious about Mainoo, but he is not the only Red Devils sensation on their radar.
Chelsea target Alejandro Garnach with Disasi and Nkunku set to leave
According to French newspaper L’Equipe, United’s exciting winger Alejandro Garnacho appeared as a target for Maresco.
The Argentine is attracting the interest of Napoli’s Antonio Conte, who appears to have eyed him as a potential replacement for PSG-bound Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
However, Conte now faces competition from his former club. Chelsea are targeting Garnach and have “launched” an operation around his potential signing, according to L’Équipe, who also gave updates on the futures of Christopher Nkunku and Axel Disasi.

Back to Garnacho, the 20-year-old has scored eight goals and provided five assists in 31 appearances so far this season, putting in some standout displays, and fits the mold of a young, exciting player who has been repeatedly targeted by BlueCo since Chelsea’s takeover.
Garnacho is also very versatile, capable of playing anywhere in attack – including on the left, right, through the middle as a central attacking midfielder and even as a second striker. However, he won’t come cheap, with some reports suggesting the South American could cost a fortune 70 million pounds.
