Celtic opened official negotiations regarding the agreement with sign Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney, it turns out.
Tierney’s contract with Arsenal expires in the summer, and Arsenal have already confirmed to the Scotland international that he will not be offered an extensionwhich immediately sparked interest in a Celtic reunion.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on Friday that Celtic have now opened talks with Tierney, who is understood to be keen on returning to his boyhood club after a five-year absence.
Celtic are confident they can agree personal terms with Tierney and, unlike Premier League suitors, can directly negotiate a pre-contract with the left-back.
Reports in Scotland say Celtic hope to be able to officially confirm a deal for Tierney in the coming days, which could then lead to talks with Arsenal about the current transfer.
Really, Sky Sports News state Celtic will try to sign Tierney on loan until the end of January after they complete his signature on a pre-contract.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has played down the idea of losing any players this month, but admitted the Gunners will “assess” any proposals received.
“All the players who are here, they want to focus on the performance and the impact on the team and if something happens there, we will evaluate it,” he told a press conference on Friday.
