Blueberry exports from Zimbabwe have positioned the country as one of the top growers in Africa, generating more than $100 million in export revenue annually. But more than 20 years after the land was reclaimed, it was difficult for local black farmers to enter the capital-intensive blueberry sector. Only 22 farmers grow blueberries and a few autochthonous farmers. Major barriers to entry include investments of up to $80,000 to grow crops per hectare, FRANCE 24’s Nyasha Chingoyo reports.
