BCCI is ready to move on, but Rohit Sharma insists on continuation till 2027

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has expressed his desire to continue playing till 2027. According to reports in Dainik Jagran, it is learned that the opener wants to play in the 2027 ICC World Cup as well as the next edition of the ICC Test World Cup.

This is a big development because there has been a lot of talk about his retirement in recent days. Many media reports have suggested that he will not be part of the Indian national cricket team squad for Tests and ODIs after the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Rohit Sharma comes to practice with the Mumbai Ranji team

With Rohit now confirmed to play in the 2027 ICC World Cup as well as the next edition of the ICC World Test Championship, it means the batsman has set his sights on a strong comeback. This was quite evident when the captain came to practice with the Mumbai Ranji Team.

Rohit was seen batting in the match simulation and there were reports that he will play the next game in Ranji Trophy 2024-25 for Mumbai, who will play Jammu and Kashmir. The match between the teams is scheduled to take place from January 23 at the BKC Mumbai Cricket Association ground.

Rohit reportedly batted for 40-45 minutes during the match simulation while watching some rhythm. The next big task for him will be the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He will lead the team in the tournament and would like to make a huge impact on the team.

Rohit Sharma underwent a lean stretch of tests

Rohit Sharma underwent a lean stretch of tests. He has not been at his best since the home series against the Bangladesh cricket team. He failed to get going in the New Zealand series and then the same fate befell him in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

And as a captain, Rohit Sharma looked terrible. Under him, the Indian national cricket team faced defeat in the home Test series against New Zealand. They subsequently lost the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 and failed to qualify for the finals of the ICC World Test Championship.

Rohit Sharma’s fate could depend on how he performs in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Since then, there have been a lot of calls related to his snitching from the Tests. Some reports claimed that the selectors have already found a successor in Jasprit Bumrah. But in addition, they will find a strong vice-captain who can lead the team in the absence of a pacer.

Rohit Sharma’s fate could depend on how he performs in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament is all set to begin on February 19 and India will open their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai.
