Arsenal made a big offer to sign “the best player in Europe”

The transfer window has been open for over three weeks now, and despite their recent struggles, Arsenal they haven’t signed a single signature yet.

Mikel Arteta side just won two of six games this monthand with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus out with long-term injuries and Ethan Nwaneri fresh back from a setback, fans have understandably demanded that the club recruit players up front.

While no one has walked through the door yet, there has been plenty of top talent being touted for a move to the N5, Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig to Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovicbut perhaps the most significant connections of the last few was in Wolverhampton the other day star Matheus Cunha.

However, Premier League star isn’t the only Brazilian Arsenal are said to be interested in, as recent reports now link them with one of the continent’s top talents who would be an even better signing than the Wolves ace.

Arsenal are targeting the sensational winger

According to a recent report from SpainArsenal have rekindled their interest in the Barcelona star Raphinhabut they are not the only English team tracking the exciting winger.

Apart from the Gunners, the report revealed that Manchester City are now keen on signing the Brazilian winger who has been utterly sensational for the Blaugrana this season.

Worse still, the report claims the Premier League champions are ready to offer around £84m for him in the summer, which would blow the north Londoners’ reported £67.5m offer into the water.

All in all, it looks like the battle for Raphinh’s signature this year could be challenging and expensive, but given his crazy output this season, it’s a battle Arsenal should be fighting to win, especially since he would be even and a better signature than Cunha.

How Raphinha compares to Cunha

Okay, so the first thing to talk about is that, yes, there is one significant difference between Cunha and Raphinha, and that is that the former usually starts in central areas, while the latter plays mostly on the right or left.

However, as most Arsenal fans will attest, the north Londoners need reinforcements across their frontline this month, so any player would be a welcome addition, but from what we’ve seen this season, we reckon the Barca star would be the star of the better signing.

For example, in only 30 performances2,477 minutes in total, the former Leeds United star has scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists, meaning he currently averages a goal every 0.90 games, or every 75.06 minutes.

In contrast, the old gold star scored ten goals and four assists in 22 appearancesa total of 1717 minutes, which means an average participation in a goal every 1.57 games, or every 122.64 minutes.

However, “Europe’s best player” is not just about raw output dubbed by journalist Dougie Critchleycomfortably beats Wolves’ ace; he is also way ahead when we compare their base numbers.

For example, the Porto Alegre-born winger is the best in virtually all indicators, including but not limited to actual and expected goals without penalties plus assists, shots and shots on goal, progressive passes, key passes, passes into the box, creation actions goal and shot and more, all 90.

After all, despite being out of the league for a few years, Raphinha has plenty of experience playing in England, so Cunha’s Premier League familiarity advantage is meaningless in this comparison.

Ultimately, Arsenal are in desperate need of new strikers this month and if they can only sign one then they should go all out for the Barcelona star as what he is doing this season is nothing short of amazing and if he could do it in north London, there is every chance that he could fire the Gunners to the title.
